I’ve been meaning to post this since last week and all that reminiscing of 1996 that I just did reminded me.
Last week Nike debuted this glorious commercial of Ken Griffey Jr. during the Home Run Derby. It’s absolutely classic and couldn’t have been put together any better.ย I don’t have to describe it anymore, just watch and remember how awesome “The Kid” was.
During tonight’s NBA Draft, you will not only see Kentucky standout John Wall become the No. 1 pick in the draft by the Washington Wizards, you’ll also see his first commercial. Wall signed with Reebok, a bold move by a company who has fallen out of elite NBA status, especially since their spokesperson Allen Iverson‘s career has all but officially ended.
The kicks aren’t bad and the commercial is pretty cool, and as one would expect, the “John Wall Dance” was featured.
I want to say that this commercial was on a movie tape of some sorts, maybe Home Alone 2? I can’t remember to be honest with you, but for some reason, I think it was. Remember how on tapes they used to have previews and ads before hand? I guess DVD’s do the same, but I think it’s easier to skip through now.
Regardless I don’t even know if “movie tape” is the correct term, and this commercial might not even be on one, I just might be a little crazy, so don’t even pay attention to me.
This ad is from 1993, and it features a young Shaquille O’Neal, wearing his Reebok Shaq Attack I shoe in the black colorway, I had those — in a boy’s size 5 1/2. Now, I need them in a 13. Anyways, this commercial is a classic for Shaq fans. If you don’t remember it, then you haven’t been down with Diesel from the beginning.
UPDATE: Come to thinking of it, it may have been on the tape to either “The Sandlot” or “Rookie of the Year.” I’m almost sure of it!
As far as humor goes, this has to be one of the best NBA commercials in a while. The Mickael Pietrus part had me cracking up. Pietrus deserves the Citizenship Award for his performance, or at least some sort of recognition in hairdressing.
Of course, Deron Williams‘ clip wasn’t too shabby either.
The first thing you might notice when watching this NBA.com commercial is how cheesy the internet looks. The page looks awful. Terrible and boring, with gawdy fonts. Well, that part comes a little later so maybe the first thing you’ll notice is Penny Hardaway or Mitch Richmond. If not, maybe you’ll finally pick up on things when you spot Sam Mitchell in his T-Wolves gear, or Antoine Walker rocking the Celtics’ green.
What a fantastic time this was.
This is before my family had the internet, so back then I used to go to other people’s houses and beg for them to let me go on NBA.com (shouts out to Jeff Long), or I’d even ask the library at school if I could stay after and use the internet to go on NBA.com. Then my mom would pick me up at around 3:00 p.m. It was awesome and it probably explains why I sucked with girls in high school.
Back in the day, them good ol’ days.
Now all we do is sit online, tweet and stalk girls’ Facebook pages.
Kobe Bryant is going for pure greatness, his fifth championship. To honor this moment and all the great moments of his career, Nike put together this fantastic new ad. It’s not just about Kobe, this commercial brings back some incredible memories. You will be watching this one over and over.
If this commercial doesn’t get you pumped for tonight, then you might want to get checked out by a doctor.
I couldn’t forget to post these two great videos of Ken Griffey Jr., especially considering the fact that both relate to this blog.
First, we must take a look at this awesome ad from 1996, starring Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Nick Anderson and of course, Lil’ Penny. The two are sitting on the couch, watching an ad promoting Griffey for president in 1996 (an amazing campaign by Nike). By the end of the ad, Anderson disappears, just like he did in the 1995 (I’m kidding, I had too! I’ve got nothing but love for Nick Anderson).
Of course, it wouldn’t be complete unless I posted his appearance on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” So click the jump, to see that footage and watch Will get dogged by “The Dynamite Kid.”
Here’s a classic McDonald’s commercial with two of the greatest players of all-time, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. This one should bring back some memories, nothing like playing H.O.R.S.E. in the front yard for a Big Mac. Story of my life.
Now this Adidas spotย may be from October, but I’m going to pretend that it came out today, since I hadn’t seen it before. Quite funny, and it shows some personality and a lighter side of Smith, a guy who has taken a lot of heat in the past about his attitude.
Make no questions about it, Smith has made a ton of necessary changes this past season, and it’s obvious they’ve all paid off for not only Smith, but his the Hawks. Don’t worry Hawks fans, this kid won’t be snubbed from the All-Star team next year.
