“The Moment the Game Changed”

October 27, 2009

Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s first NBA game. It’s pretty crazy to think it’s been 25 years already, but it has. Jordan changed the game and the NBA and Mitchell and Ness are teaming to let fans recapture the greatness and nostalgic fever that is known as MJ.

Today marked the release of the first ever Mitchell and Ness produced Michael Jordan jersey, which is a reproduction of his 1984-85 rookie jersey with the Chicago Bulls. The jersey is cutsom tailored to Jordan’s specifications during his rookie season and comes in a commemorative case with a certificate of authenticity signed by NBA commissioner David Stern.

As with all Mitchell and Ness jerseys, this isn’t cheap, and this timeless piece is limited to 1,264 (the amount of games Jordan played during his career) and is going to cost you a non-recession price of $374.99 at the NBA Store.

If I had that type of money, you bet I’d order one, this thing is timeless and can spice up the decor of any “man-cave.” Worst case, if you’re broke like me, you can still pickup a t-shirt for $30.

Everyone gets new jerseys in ’09-10

September 24, 2009

It was pretty cool at first, the whole ‘new uniforms for the 2009-10 NBA season’ thing. The Sixers announced they’d have a new logo and uniforms for the upcoming season, then Portland showed off their retro-inspired alternates, then the Mavericks pulled out a new alternate jersey, but now it’s just getting ridiculous.

The Houston Rockets are the latest team to get a new jersey for the upcoming NBA season. Wednesday night the Rockets unveiled their new alternate road uniform, which was inspired by the jerseys the team wore during their back-to-back championship run in 1994 and 1995.

Look at the font and of course the coloring scheme (granted it is the old school Rockets colors), the jersey is clearly Chinese inspired, clearly narrowing in on their target market. Since the economy is down, teams are just pumping out new ways to get your money. With Yao Ming down all season, the Rockets need to do anything they can to generate interest. These new duds should sell very well, especially internationally with their huge Chinese fan base.

Sixers’ new jerseys unveiled

September 24, 2009

The Philadelphia 76ers made the exciting announcement earlier this summer that they’d be going back to their old logo from the 1980′s and early 90′s. Since they’d be ditching the old color scheme and logo, it also meant a jersey change.

I think the jerseys are quite nice. They use the classic colors, they’re not overdone and different than their 80′s counterpart, yet still reminiscent. See for yourself if you don’t believe me…

Mavs get new threads, Sixers coming soon too

September 21, 2009

NBA teams have been quick to put out new jerseys over the summer and you can now add the Dallas Mavericks to that list. The Mavs unveiled their new alternate jerseys to the public today, in an event which also introduced Shawn Marion, Drew Gooden, Tim Thomas and Quinton Ross to Mavs fans, along with a re-introduction of Jason Kidd.

Here’s the Marion jersey, the Mavs have a new alternate every season it seems, but these have a nice touch.

The new, yet old fasioned Sixers jerseys debut in less than 48 hours.

Does anybody love Raymond?

September 21, 2009

Raymond Felton is a restricted free-agent without a deal. The Charlotte Bobcats’ point guard has been rumored to be on the trading block for months (Googling “Raymond Felton trade” will be enough proof).

Reports have indicated that the Bobcats want to keep Felton, but the two sides are far from agreeing on a deal.

Today the Bobcats new jerseys were unveiled to the public and you can order your favorite Bobcats’ player, well, except for Felton (and Vladimir Radmanovic, not that anyone outside of Serbia would want one, possibly including Serbia).

Granted it’s just a jersey on the team’s shop website, it is probably a legit indication that Felton more than likely won’t be in a Bobcats uniform much longer.

UPDATE: Felton and the Bobcats came to terms on a one-year deal worth a reported $5.5 million.

Trail Blazers new alternate uni’s

August 19, 2009

During the 2009-10 NBA season the Portland Trail Blazers will be rocking some throwback inspired alternate uniforms.

The red ones are obviously Bill Walton era inspired and the white ones bare the popular Portland nickname, “Rip City.”

I love the “Rip City” home jerseys, and think they should seriously consider making that their default home uniform.

Vince Carter heading to Orlando?

June 25, 2009

vince_carter_dunks

My main man Adrian Wojnarowski over at Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Magic and Nets are working on a deal that would send Vince Carter to the Magic in exchange for Tony Battie, Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee.

This is definitely interesting, and is showing that teams in the East are not messing around, many teams making moves so far.

Woj has been on top of all the deal so far, and has broken quite a bit of the news to the sports world, for more of what he’s got going on, check out his latest updates.

Is that a Toni Kukoc jersey?

May 20, 2009

I was on Ball Don’t Lie a couple of minutes ago and saw this picture of LeBron James, but the first thing that I noticed was not LeBron.

The home authentic Toni Kukoc jersey drew me in.

In the top left corner of the picture, you see a Hawks fan repping this gem. I will assume it is a Kukoc, he wore number “7″ for the Hawks from 2001-2002, and the jersey appears to only bare the number “7.”

One of my buddies is Croatian, because of that, he drafted Kukoc in the first five rounds of our fantasy league ever year. He also shelled out nearly $180 to have a Hawks Kukoc customized, but he went with the away jersey.

Props to you Kukoc fan, props to you.

Get your eBay on: Hersey Hawkins.

May 19, 2009

Do you need a Hersey Hawkins jersey?

YES you do!

Picture 1

Everyone should have one. Unfortunately, I don’t think too many were produced by Champion during the 90′s. I have reluctantly found one on eBay in a size large, which is too small for me, considering a large jersey in the 90′s fit a little more snug than a large these days.

Hawkins was a deadly shooter, and a pretty darn good scorer during his 13 NBA seasons. Hawkins scored 14.7 points per game over the course of his career.

Hawkins was a pivitol member of those great Sonics teams of the 90′s with Detlef Schrempf, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton and Sam Perkins.

So if you want to rep for the Seattle Supersonics and go against the man, pick up this classic.
