‘Double Rainbow Guy’ also on Kimmel

July 23, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I saw Jimmy Kimmel post a link on his Twitter to the “Double Rainbow” video on YouTube, which has since become the latest viral video sensation. The video blew my mind, I literally was in tears laughing and immediately sent it out to my usual group of friends whom I forward e-mails to. Some of them loved it and others thought it was dumb. Nonetheless, I think it’s one of the greatest video in the history of the internet, if not the greatest.

Last night, in addition to D-Wade, Kimmel invited Paul “Bear” Vasquez to his show. Bear is the man behind the camera whose genuine and insane reactions to seeing a “double rainbow all the way across” have given him his 15 minutes. Since I love the video so much, I figured I’d share this two part interview with you.

Part 2 after the break…

Goodbye, baseball. Hello, Cooperstown.

July 19, 2010

I’ve been meaning to post this since last week and all that reminiscing of 1996 that I just did reminded me.

Last week Nike debuted this glorious commercial of Ken Griffey Jr. during the Home Run Derby. It’s absolutely classic and couldn’t have been put together any better.ย I don’t have to describe it anymore, just watch and remember how awesome “The Kid” was.

Happy Birthday America!

Nothing like some 1980′s Hulk Hogan to celebrate Independence Day.

World Cup 2010: Team USA wins

June 24, 2010

I do not understand soccer, not whatsoever. I respect the sport, it’s just not for me and I’m not going to pretend that I like it, like so many others in my country during World Cup time. For people that like soccer, that’s great and I’m sure they’re loving the World Cup right now. For the posers, you all just look and sound like idiots.

Now, when I was at work and heard that the USA soccer team won today, in dramatic fashion, I was actually kind of excited. Obviously, my country won, so that’s cool and also because I guess the USA is a huge underdog and I’ll always root for the underdog. I didn’t watch the game, I was at work — like many Americans. I’m not going to go World Cup crazy, but I can be happy for our team and the fact that USA has made it to the top 16 teams for the first time in like 80 years, so that’s pretty awesome.

Obviously the fact that the game went around 91 minutes and finished with a score of 1-0 is one reason I don’t really watch soccer, but again, mad props to team USA. Keep it rollin’, or whatever someone would say to pump up a soccer player.

Some great Ken Griffey Jr. videos

June 2, 2010

I couldn’t forget to post these two great videos of Ken Griffey Jr., especially considering the fact that both relate to this blog.

First, we must take a look at this awesome ad from 1996, starring Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Nick Anderson and of course, Lil’ Penny. The two are sitting on the couch, watching an ad promoting Griffey for president in 1996 (an amazing campaign by Nike). By the end of the ad, Anderson disappears, just like he did in the 1995 (I’m kidding, I had too! I’ve got nothing but love for Nick Anderson).

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete unless I posted his appearance on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” So click the jump, to see that footage and watch Will get dogged by “The Dynamite Kid.”

Goodbye, Griffey

June 2, 2010

You should know that I’m all about the 90′s. It’s a primary trait of this blog, it’s what defines me. It was the prime era for my relationship with sports and music.

With basketball there was Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Shawn Kemp and select others. Those were the guys that we worshipped back in that day, the players that we always talked about in the school cafeteria each day. Not only did we rock their jerseys, we bought their shoes.

In football, of course there was Deion Sanders and Emmitt Smith.

Hockey, I’ll leave that to the hardcore NHL fan.

As for baseball, it was all about Ken Griffey Jr. He was the face of the sport, he was everywhere. He made baseball cool. Griffey was the deal, on top of that, he was great. After 22 years, he’s decided to call in a career.

Of course, injuries had severely impacted his career since 2001 and they robbed baseball fans of the greatest player of all-time (if he never got hurt).

Even with all the injuries, Griffey finished fifth all-time in home runs with 630. If that doesn’t tell you how great this guy was, I don’t know what to tell you. I firmly believe that Griffey never touched steroids, but of course, it’s only an assumption and I have no facts, beyond the fact that he’s never been accused.

All I know for sure is that my favorite baseball player has finally walked away from the game and baseball and finding another player like “The Kid” is not going to be an easy task.

Thanks Ken Griffey Jr., you’re the best.

The kid is ONLY 14 years old. He’ll be 15 in a couple of days.

Seriously, he is ill. Probably the best kid I’ve ever heard rap. No ringtone ish, REAL HIP-HOP.

Want more? Check Diggy’s first mixtape out, it’s DOPE!

Props to my dudeย Big Red for inspiring me to post this tonight.

B.o.B – “Nothin’ on You”

March 11, 2010

Here’s the official video for B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You,” which features Bruno Mars on the chorus. This song is the official coming out party for the Atlanta emcee, who is about to take pop radio airwaves by storm with this track.

This is the best song of a young 2010, plus the video is pretty ill too.
