Dropping this Saturday: AJ XI 25th

April 28, 2010

The Nike Air Jordan XI is probably the most popular Air Jordan of all-time. It’s symbolic of Michael Jordan’s return to the NBA in the mid 90′s, it also reminds so many of us of middle school or high school and the good ole’ days.

The shoe is legendary.

When they come out, they sell out…quick!

This Saturday, May 1 the 25th Anniversary Edition of the AJ XI is dropping. Done in all white, these are sure to fly off shelves. Jordan Brand is releasing shoes I-XXV in all white editions to honor 25 years of Jordan.

Take your pop cans back and hit CoinStar, you’re going to need about $150 bucks this Saturday morning for sure!

Josh Smith becomes hilarious

April 20, 2010

Josh Smith had a solid day. First he finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Afterwards, Smith went out and led the Hawks to a victory tonight with a near triple-double — 21 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists. The Hawks have taken a 2-0 lead in their series against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Now this Adidas spot may be from October, but I’m going to pretend that it came out today, since I hadn’t seen it before. Quite funny, and it shows some personality and a lighter side of Smith, a guy who has taken a lot of heat in the past about his attitude.

Make no questions about it, Smith has made a ton of necessary changes this past season, and it’s obvious they’ve all paid off for not only Smith, but his the Hawks. Don’t worry Hawks fans, this kid won’t be snubbed from the All-Star team next year.

Derrick Coleman rocked BK’s

March 23, 2010

Back in the day, British Knights were sweet. Well, at least I think they were. I remember the when a bunch of kids in elementary school had BK’s with the Dymacel technology, but I don’t think any of them were rocking these Derrick Coleman’s.

BK was trying, but back in the early 90′s if it didn’t have a pump or air pockets, then you were getting ripped on at school. Unless of course there was a Jumpman logo on your kicks.

It’s too bad Coleman never reached his potential, the guy  had unbelievable talent. Maybe it was the BK’s?

See the other DC BK commercial…

Nightmares Never Sleep – Air Jordan 2010 w/ D-Wade

February 6, 2010

Here is the official, full-length “Nightmares Never Sleep” spot from Nike/Jordan Brand. The commercial features Jordan Brand’s new face, Dwayne Wade and is not your average Jordan commercial. I dig what they did with this, especially the focus on Wade wearing Jordan’s signature shoe — considering he’s one of the best players in today’s game.

If you want to pick up the kicks, they drop next Saturday during All-Star Weekend.

Mars Blackmon, it’s gotta be the shoes

January 21, 2010

Mars Blackmon is a sneaker icon. He might not be as instrumental to the sneaker game as Michael Jordan was, but he definitely deserves credit. Nike has recognized his greatness — via the Jordan Spiz’ike. His commercials with Jordan are timeless.

Nike has launched a site dedicated to the legend — Mars Blackmon — the one and only. Check it out, know your roots sneakerheads.

Yep, there’s even an iPhone app now too.

My favorite Mars commercial is after the break.

Oh my, I found my next pair of kicks

December 16, 2009

Remember L.A Gear? They were awesome.

If you weren’t rocking Nikes or Reeboks back in 1992, you either had on Converse or L.A. Gear. There is a slim chance you wore Spaldings or Everlasts, but if you did, I probably didn’t talk to you. No offense.

Back when I was in fourth grade, all I wanted was L.A. Lights, an L.A Gear shoe with — you guessed it — lights on the back. As you would step, they would blink — what a concept! They we’re glorious, I remember how bad I wanted them, it was all I thought about that summer. As school shopping began, I begged and pleaded my mom to buy me those shoes, the cool kind with the removable lights.

Luckily, she agreed. I got the shoes, I was in heaven. They were the same kind that Karl Malone wore. Yep, I was rockin’ “The Mailman’s” kicks. Unfortunately, just days after having them, the lights kept sliding out. I eventually returned them and wound up with a pair of L.A Gear pumps instead.

Even though the website is kind of whack, L.A. Gear is BACK! I’m losing my mind right now, I’m totally buying a pair of these L.A. Lights after Christmas and I am going to wear them in the bar and go crazy on the dance floor in them. Yes, I’m bringing L.A. Lights back, along with the five-year olds that still wear light-up shoes.

Pickup your L.A. Lights here.

“The Question” releasing tomorrow at Footlocker

December 4, 2009

I’m not going to say anything negative about Allen Iverson in this post.

In honor of Iverson’s return to Philly, Reebok will be dropping pairs of his first signature shoe “The Question” at Footlockers this Saturday (that’s tomorrow fool!).

The shoe is a classic, no doubt. It’s been released a bundle of times, but this obviously is a special occasion. I used to want them so bad in 8th grade, I remember it like it was yesterday. I tried convincing my dad that if I got straight A’s I should get them. I didn’t get straight A’s, but I wound up with an authentic Damon Stoudamire Raptors jersey instead. I’m having trouble remembering what kicks I rocked back then, but I have a feeling that my Nike Air Uptempo 95s (the color provided in the link is not the original color that I had) carried over from 7th grade, at least for a bit. If you know what shoes I had back in 8th grade, let me know the answer to this mystery.

As with the normal retail price on “The Question,” these should be about $89.99.

1997, what up!?

Props, DimeMag

Clyde Drexler’s shoes probably didn’t sell too well

November 18, 2009

In the early 90′s NBA legend Clyde Drexler released a shoe with Avia. The shoes don’t look too bad and Drexler was a great player that many aspired to be like, but based on this commercial I have to assume the shoes didn’t sell to well.

I still have no idea how the theme of this commercial relates to “The Glyde,” or if it’s even in English, but I have a feeling if these were released now, they’d sell better because of people’s new lame obsession with vampires. A bunch of pale-skinned creeps would be buying them.
