I will never forget about how bad Shannon Brownsucked in the dunk contest, so I will never hop on his bandwagon. Last night however, Brown had one of the most explosive dunks of the playoffs. When I first saw it happen, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. The dunk has that, “Wait, where the hell did he come from?” feel to it.
He had two nice throwdowns in the game, check ‘em both out while we all wait for Game 7 on Thursday.
Thornton dropped 36 points on the Bobcats tonight and fellow rook’ Darren Collison had another outstanding game with 24 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Collison is back in the starting spot for the Hornets with Chris Paulmissing the rest of the season, after suffering his latest injury — a ligament tear in his right middle finger.
Going back to the dunk, take that Wallace. Now if only the Hornets could play the Lakers before season’s end so I could say the same to Shannon Brown.
With the game tied Wednesday night in Atlanta, the Hawks were in search of their first win of the season against the Orlando Magic, they also could clinch a playoff spot with the win. No timeouts meant it was time for Joe Johnson to search for the game-winning jumper. Johnson gets a solid look as he takes Vince Carter off the dribble, but it goes off the rim.
Smith gets the put-back slam at the buzzer and the Hawks win a huge game in front of their home crowd, they’re currently tied with Boston for the third best record in the Eastern Conference.
The Milwaukee Bucks are rolling. One of the biggest reasons has been the development and health of Andrew Bogut. Bogut, who was the number one overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, is starting to play like a number one pick.
This season, the 7-footer is giving the Bucks 16.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Since the All-Star Break, he’s also been averaging over three blocks per game, to go along with a solid 17 point and 11 rebound line.
Bogut is really beginning to come into his own, and granted he received a little bit of All-Star consideration this season, come next February, he’ll be getting plenty of it.
JR Smith is one of the streakiest shooters in the game. When Smith is hot, he is one of the deadliest players in the L. He can literally take over a game, even with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups on his squad.
Before Smith became known as a deadly long-range weapon, he was one of the league’s best dunkers. Obviously, nothing has changed.
This is one of the best dunks I’ve seen all season.
We all know that the 2010 NBA Slam Dunk contest was terrible. It was bad enough that this dunk that Andre Miller pulled off Sunday night would have won the competition. That’s no knock on Miller, it’s just shocking that Miller can dunk at all, let alone throw it down the way he did.
Miller is about to turn 34 years old in a few days and I’ve never seen him dunk like that in a game, let alone remember him dunking in the last decade.
Not to mention, Miller dropped a career-high 52 points on Dallas earlier this year. All of this from a guy that wasn’t starting in favor of Steve Blake a few months back.
Gerald Wallace and Shannon Brown are both going to take a lot of heat on my site for a long time, their performance in Saturday Night’s dunk contest weren’t just bad, they showed a lack of respect towards the night’s premiere event.
To remind us of good memories, check out the great Larry Nance, who had some spectacular jams back in the 1984 contest. The video also features some Cedric Ceballos, which will never grow old.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest and greatest from around the league, including my feelings on the All-Star Weekend as a whole, and of course a review of the big trade the Mavs’ made. Plus, what jersey will Amare Stoudemire be wearing this weekend? Will T-Mac finally get to put on a jersey?
Stay tuned and thanks for all the great support this weekend. The best is yet to come.
LeBron James is far too much of a d-bag to do the NBA’s Slam Dunk contest, after making a stink about it last year (more on that later). Dwight Howard is a former dunk champion, but without LeBron’s 2010 competition, Howard took his name out of the contest.
The two were able to give fans a dunk contest during the Super Bowl however, in the name of McDonald’s.
On this site, I’m all about the 80′s and 90′s, especially that early-mid 90′s game — when I grew up watching guys like Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Shaquille O’Neal, Dennis Scott, David Robinson and Juwan Howard. We all know that O’Neal is still around, but I bet a lot of people didn’t realize that Howard is as well.
Howard, on the verge of 37 years young has become the starting center for the Portland Trail Blazers, after injuries to Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla. Last night, Howard officially turned back the clock on this amazing slam in the face of the 27 year-old Chris Kaman.
Just to reiterate, Howard was drafted in 1994. In 1994, Kaman was in the seventh grade.
